Research communications and engagement consultancy

There’s an increasing demand for researchers to make their work accessible and accountable beyond academia. I know, because I’ve got over a decade’s experience of doing that exact thing with my own research and at medical research funders.

I’d love to use my extensive experience of research engagement to help you make your healthcare, neuroscientific or psychological research engaging, accessible and useful for audiences and communities of all kinds, from patients to policymakers.

Need some quick advice or support on a research communication problem?

If you’re feeling a bit stuck with research comms for a specific project and need some help getting unstuck, I offer 60 and 90 minute research communication clinics.

I can provide support with things like:

  • Advice on developing a communications and engagement plan for a research project, like establishing goals and measures of success

  • Feedback on an existing communications and engagement plan

  • Considering equality, diversity and inclusion in research communications and engagement plans

  • Working out what to write in that public engagement section on your grant application

  • Figuring out how to adapt your research communication content and style for different audiences

  • Ways to maximise the impact of your communication and engagement

  • Ensuring research communication is embedded in every stage of your work rather than tacked on at the end

For a clinic, you’re buying 60 or 120 minutes of my time and expertise. This time can be spent on discussion over video call, asynchronous work (like reading over a document to provide feedback), or a combination of both - you’ll be asked about this during the booking process.

Please note, if you want a video call it will need to take place in the timeslot you’ve booked, but asynchronous work can be scheduled for another time if you prefer. For example, you may want a brief video call to discuss asynchronous work you'd like me to take on in a week’s time.

  • Free 25 minute discovery call for new clients

Need someone to plan, deliver or assess research communication and engagement?

Clinics are for advice and brief support for researchers doing their own research communication and engagement. However, if you’re an individual, team or organisation looking to outsource that work, I can help with that too!

This could be for you if you’re looking for a specialist to work with you on:

  • Developing a research communications and engagement plan that meets your needs and those of your audiences

  • Adapting existing research content for new audiences and communities

  • Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of your existing research communication and engagement and figuring out ways to make it simpler, quicker to do, and/or more effective.

My day rate for research communications consultancy of this type is £475.

Book a free discovery call or drop me an email if you’d like to discuss your needs.
